10 Tips On How To Lose Weight Effectively Without Starving Yourself

Losing weight always seems like the hardest thing you ever have to do. Public speaking seems like a walk in the park compared to shedding the pounds.

Even babysitting the most hyperactive kid on the planet is easier than losing weight!

Starving yourself is, of course, not an option. So, if you’re really serious about this weight loss thing and you want to do it the easy way, let’s take a look at 10 ways you can lose weight effectively without going on a hunger strike.

Eat A Breakfast Of Champions

Doughnuts are not a cornerstone of any nutritional breakfast. Neither are pancakes, peanut butter or Lucky Charms. All these foods are airy, loaded with calories, and won’t actually keep you filled up for longer than 20 minutes.

Instead, you should treat yourself to a big, nutritional breakfast that will keep you filled up. There are lots of awesome breakfast ideas out there, so do some research and find out what’s tasty, healthy and filling in the morning. Breakfasts that include eggs, tomatoes and spinach are always winners.

Cut Out The Starches

Sometimes, losing weight can be as simple as dropping the three main starches from your diet:

  • Pasta
  • White bread
  • Potatoes

All of these will pile on the pounds, particularly if you have a slow metabolism. If you can’t bring yourself to ditch the bread and pasta, switch them for whole-wheats. Meanwhile, exchanging your white potatoes for sweet potatoes will also do the trick.

(As long as you don’t stuff your face)

Think About Your Food More

We are what we eat. If you’re the kind of person who eats leftover pizza, out-of-date cookies and gorges on popcorn at the movies, you’re not really thinning about what you’re eating.

To lose weight, you need to start applying some more thought. Find out what is both healthy and tasty, and experiment with your foods more. Use seasoning on your vegetables to bring out flavours and try different things. And cut out the leftover foods.

Cut Back On The Booze

If you know you drink just a little bit too much, it’s time to cut back on the booze. Alcohol can really pile on the pounds, and is often the hidden weight-gainer that many us prefer to ignore. After all, who wants to give up their weekends and social life?

Cheeky cocktails after work can be a nightmare on your hips, though. Rather than go out every weekend, consider going out every other weekend.

Eat More Fruit

If you don’t eat much fruit, you’re probably thinking “eew, fruit!”

But fruit is awesome, has no fat, is rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and can taste oh so amazing. Sometimes it’s just a case of shopping around and finding the fruits that you like because not all fruits taste the same. Once you’ve settled on some fruits you genuinely like the taste of, try to eat at least two a day.

Be More Active

In 2015, lots of us work in offices which means that we get to sit down a lot during the day. While this is nice in theory, it isn’t doing our physical health any good.

If you’re not a very active person, it’s time to start using your body more. You don’t have to go to the gym and break a sweat like a beast; you could go for a walk, a morning jog, or you could even do some work-outs at home.

Drink Lots Of Water

Did you know that when we’re hungry our mind sometimes confuses hunger for thirst? Whenever you feel the first pangs of hunger stirring, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you need food in your belly. Sometimes, it just means you need a drink.

(And, no, not a Cosmopolitan)

Rather, your body is possibly crying out for some water. A glass of water can fill you up with a few calories, and it’s also really healthy for you. We suggest that you drink at least six glasses or day, or even more.

Cut Down On Salt

Ever since the sugar crisis hit the western world, we’ve all become a little bit obsessed with our sugar intake. Afraid of developing diabetes, we’re cutting down on foods that are loaded with the white stuff.

But because of this, we’ve kind forgotten all about salt. Salt was the scourge of the nineties, and we were told to cut back on it. Since the rise to stardom of sugar, we’ve cheekily returned to eating more salt. But salt can pile on the pounds, and could be a reason why those numbers on your scale just aren’t lowering. Cut back on the salt and find other ways of seasoning your food.

Add Some Spices

If you’re looking to lose weight, you should spice up your life! Adding exotic, hot spices to your food, such as chilli, can help to curb your hunger. It might sound strange, but it’s totally true.

Okay, some people are really averse to spicy foods, but sometimes it’s just a case of getting used to them. Take it easy at first and just use pinches here and there. There’s really nothing to it!

Hot spices also release the happy hormone endorphin in your brain, making you feel happier. What a great reason for adding some heat to your grub!

Eat Healthier Snacks

Snacks are great, right? Snacks are there for you whenever you’re hungry, and a movie night with your mates wouldn’t be the same without nachos and melted cheese. They really add something! Where would we be without snacks?!

But junky snacks are seriously bad for you, and they’re probably the main contributor to your weight gain. You can still eat snacks, but it’s time to replace the chips and sweets for nuts and blueberries.

Nuts and blueberries taste great, and sometimes it’s just a case of getting used to the fact that these are your new best friends. Movie night with almonds and fruit? I think so!

Stay happy and healthy!
