10 Best Spices For Boosting Weight Loss

At the start of this year, I made a resolution to lose weight. I set myself a long-term target, and I then made a series of short-term goals that would help me reach it.

By February, the plan wasn’t going so great. I thought I was eating the right things because I’d cut out junk food and sugary drinks, and I was also exercising. But for some reason, I was way off my first goal.

I talked to a nutritionist friend about it who eyed me questioningly. Why hadn’t I come to see her sooner?

It was a good question, but here I was and could she give me some advice?

It turns out that she had plenty of advice, including lots of neat tips and tricks that I never would have thought of myself.

It isn’t just what you don’t eat that can help you lose weight, but it’s also what you do eat.

There are certain foods that help you lose weight quicker than others.

And there are also herbs and spices you can sprinkle over your dishes to not only enhance the taste – but to also boost your weight loss goals.

These herbs and spices are inexpensive to buy, and easy to introduce to your dishes. They boost your metabolism, shrink your fat tissue and reduces your appetite.

They include cayenne pepper, black pepper, turmeric, ginseng and ginger, and they have all supported my weight loss goals. So much so, that I am now fully back on track.

Even better, all the herbs and spices on this list come with lots of other health benefits, too. Rich in antioxidants, they can reduce your risk of cancer, prevent heart disease, as well as slow down the ageing process. Let’s take a look!

Ginger

Ginger is great for settling down a stomach. As well as soothing your intestinal tract, it also boosts your metabolism.

You can include it in meals or drink it in tea.

Ginseng

Ginseng is known and loved for its talent at improving energy levels and boosting metabolism.

This exotic herb is super healthy. Studies have shown that it can reduce weight in diabetics by improving insulin sensitivity.

This herb is a bit of a miracle because it works so quickly. Consume it during the day and you’ll already notice its effects the following morning. Add it to your diet and enjoy the new-looking-and-feeling you.

Green Tea

Green tea comes with so many health benefits that it’s impossible to list them all in this short article. Green tea can fight cancer, boost your immune system, improve your cognitive functioning – and help you lose weight.

Green tea contains a powerful antioxidant that promotes weight loss by burning fat quicker and boosting your metabolism.

Indeed, green tea is what I refer to as my lieutenant in the fight against too much weight. I drink 3 cups of green tea per day, but if you dislike the taste you can always try the flavoured kind – the benefits are the same! In fact, you don’t even need to drink it because it’s also available as a crushed herb or a dietary supplement.

Either way you consume it, its’s 100% natural.

Dandelions

The dandelion is edible. Not just its head or its stem – all of it.

And in case anyone asks you why in the world you’re eating a plate full of dandelions tonight, just say you’ve got this weight-loss thing nailed.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper is pretty hot. As such, it’s not going to be good for everyone. But if you can handle the heat, then read on …

Cayenne pepper comes with numerous health benefits. It can fight colds and flus, break up fungus, prevent migraines, improve digestion – and aid weight loss.

You might not like the fact that this spice is so hot, but the compound which creates that heat is also responsible for reducing calorie intake, lowering fat tissue, as well as decreasing the amount of fat in your blood.

Black Pepper

Most households contain black pepper, so sprinkling some on your dish tonight shouldn’t be a problem.

You should go for it, too, because the reason for its pungent taste is also the reason why it can help you lose weight.

Piperine is a fat-burning substance. Just a handful of it is enough to burn as many calories as a 20-minute walk!

Cinnamon

Although I drink 3 cups of green tea each day, I still find the time to squeeze in at least one cup of cinnamon tea, too. That’s because cinnamon is another weight loss-boosting spice that is absolutely remarkable.

Thankfully, cinnamon tastes like sunshine. It’s delicious, but although they say that sweet-tasting food is bad for you, cinnamon breaks the rules. Indeed, it regulates your blood sugar levels for you, and it helps you to shed some pounds.

Cinnamon is great for people who (like me) have a sweet tooth. Substitute it for sugar, drop some in your tea and cakes and you’ll be loving life.

Turmeric

I’d never even heard of turmeric until a month ago, but now I cook with it all the time because of its ace weight-loss benefits. And if you like eating curries, you already like turmeric (perhaps without realising it).

So the advice? Eat more curries!

The Nettle Leaf

My childhood memories of nettle leaves are not nice. We used to call them stinging nettles (and still do) because even if your skin gently brushed against them, you would come out in a stinging rash that wouldn’t settle for hours. It was very unpleasant.

Oddly enough, though, the nettle leaf can be consumed – and should be consumed.

This is because the misunderstood nettle leaf is rich in vitamins A and C which not only protect your skin, but also boost your metabolism.

If you consume this hearty leaf on a daily basis, you can remove nasty toxins from your blood, purifying it and eliminating fat.

Try nettle tea and see what you think!

Mustard

Mustard is my favourite spice, and I use it at least 3 or 4 times a week in my dishes. It adds such a sharp kick to food, and I can’t get enough of it.

Little did I ever realise that mustard can also help you lose weight.

Yup, mustard can improve your metabolic rate by a whopping twenty-five percent.

Can’t take the heat? Do it for the hips!

What are your favorite spices and herbs for weight loss?

Stay happy!
