Do you think that it is possible that you may be holding yourself back, in terms of losing weight because you could have a fear for failure?

Many people who are trying to lose weight are afraid to start an exercise regime or even to start following a new diet plan as they fear the inability to run through or complete the programme.

Well, according to research done in 2008 at Temple University's Center for Obesity Research and Education, the fear of failure can be a significant mental barrier to exercising and losing weight. The study followed 278 females for a period of one year. In this time all the participants were enrolled in a study encouraging physical activity. It was found that the obese women were more likely to experience a fear of failure as a mental block to exercising and losing weight as opposed to those women of normal weight.

If you can build up the courage to stay focused on your goal, you can achieve anything! In addition, try building a support network with people around you who are also trying to lose weight – get together with neighbours, friends or even your spouse and work towards your weight loss goals together.
