If you’ve ever wished you could give your body makeover, here are four people who did just that! We uncovered three simple strategies to their sucessful weight loss...

Francois Jutte, Nicky Sharp, Derik Celliers and Marinda Kleinhans were crowned Best Male, Best Female and Best Couple respectively in the 2011/2012 USN Body Makeover Challenge.

“The challenge has taught me that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. I had always loved exercising before starting the challenge, but I had a bed rest pregnancy and I gained a lot of weight,” said Nicky Sharp, winner of the Best Female category.

Entrants had 12 weeks to achieve amazing body transformations through good nutrition, regular exercise, effective supplementation and goal setting.

Here are three steps to weight loss and fitness success we can learn from the USN Body Makeover Challenge winners…

1. Change the strategy - If you’ve been doing the same workout for months and haven’t seen results, it’s time to mix it up!

Try a new workout class or consult a personal trainer for a customised programme to help you reach your goals.

“Changing my daily nutrition and workout routine helped me lose weight. I often did cardio and when I started using supplementation, I got a personal trainer and he encouraged me to start lifting weights as well,” said Sharp.

2. Follow a programme - If you want to lose weight and get fit, you need to find a programme and stick with it!

“What really helped me is that I followed the nutrition and workout programme step by step,” said Francois Jutte, winner of the Best Male category. “You have to work hard, be dedicated and give yourself enough time to make that ultimate lifestyle change. If you do it properly, you will see the results,” said Sharp.

3. Commit to a goal or training partner - Struggling to stay motivated? Try setting a goal.

You could sign up for a 10km brisk walk or a half-marathon, giving yourself enough time to train of course.

Before starting the programme, Jutte couldn’t even run for one minute. Now he’s running 21km races! “I feel much healthier and I have more energy.”

Another strategy is to find a training partner. This worked for the winners of the Best Couple category, Derik Celliers and Marinda Kleinhans.

“We both made a commitment to enter and finish the challenge. One of the reasons we managed to succeed is that we motivated each other and we were both eager to start adopting a healthier lifestyle,” said Celliers and Kleinhans.
