Let’s be honest, there are plenty of weight loss tips out there that are enough to send you running in the wrong direction.

They’re too complicated, they’re scary and some of them are just downright dangerous.

Losing weight isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s a lifestyle choice – at least it is if you want to keep it off.

Here are eight effortless ways that can help you lose extra weight, while not making you feel as though you’re torturing your body at the same time.

  1. Turn the TV off while eating meals. Eating while watching TV can make you take in 40% more calories than usual.

  2. Weigh yourself every day and keep a food journal so you know how you’re progressing or when you need to cut back.

  3. Phone a friend the next time you feel your body craving junk food. Research has shown that cravings typically last five minutes, so when you feel it hitting, call a friend and chat for a few minutes about anything other than food.

  4. Don’t starve yourself. If you’re hungry and it’s not time for a main meal, have a small healthy snack such as a piece of fruit or a few nuts.

  5. Drink a glass of water before your meal. This will fill you up slightly so that you eat less than what you normally would.

  6. Sleep a little longer. Studies have shown that people who had little sleep were more prone to overeating and snacking on unhealthy foods.

  7. Trick your body by eating your meals on smaller plates and in smaller bowls.

  8. Get in at least 15 minutes of exercise a day. You can even do this by getting up during a few TV adverts and dancing around, doing a few jumping jacks, lunges, squats and sit ups!
