Create a diversion to keep cravings at bay

Although it is perfectly ok to allow yourself a little treat from time to time, over indulging could make us pile on more calories that we sometimes think is possible.

Out of sight

We’ve heard of the phrase ‘Out of sight…out of mind' before, and for most people this system seems to work. If there is something around the house that you really crave, place it somewhere that you would never look. For example, a bag of chips could be moved to a cupboard too high for you to reach, or even to a completely different room.

Create a diversion

You could also create a diversion by ignoring the craving and doing something else for a while. For example, clean out a cupboard or maybe go outdoors and do some gardening.

Is it chocolate that you’re craving?

A study published in the journal Appetite, in 2009, showed that taking a brisk walk for about 15 minutes can help to reduce cravings for chocolate. Generally after one has waited for a period of 15 to 20 minutes, the urge to indulge in something is no longer as strong as it was before.

So use this information wisely and have a plan of what activity you can engage in to help prevent you from giving into calorie increasing temptations.
