What are liquid calories?

Liquid calories are found in various types of everyday drinks; these calories can be an even greater culprit than those found in food.

Soft drinks, fruit juices, energy drinks and those 'must have' pick-me-up cups of tea and coffee you drink throughout the day, all contain liquid calories.

The average glass of wine or bottle of beer contains 100 – 150 calories. Two Bacardi Breezers will add on 400 calories and energy drinks normally contain around 200 calories.

According to Dr. Oz, women shouldn't be drinking more than six teaspoons of sugar a day.

How many spoonfuls of sugar do you put in your tea or coffee, and how many cups do you have on average each day?

And this isn't even including any other drinks such as juices, soft drinks, etc.

Drinks without the calories

If you're serious about losing weight, it's a good idea to quench your thirst and stick with these healthier drink options instead:

  • Water with a slice of lemon or sprig of mint if you want the extra flavour.

  • Herbal teas

  • Green tea

  • Flavoured soda waters (lemon, grapefruit, etc.)
