How to get selfish and burn extra calories

Make it a personal affair

Shedding calories is something you do in order to look and feel better about yourself. You're doing it for you, not for anyone else.

At least you shouldn't be.

It's why you need to get a little selfish when it comes to your weight loss goals.

Family, jobs and other responsibilities usually come first and by the time there's a tiny gap available for any sort of 'me time', it's almost always filled with someone or something else that needs your attention.

Pen it in

One way to solve this problem is to set aside a time every day when nothing crucial is happening. Think of it as an appointment with yourself. You wouldn't want to be rude and cancel it, would you?

  • Slot out a few minutes – even if it's just 10 minutes before going to bed and prepare your healthy snacks and lunch for work the next day.

  • Block off half-an-hour for an exercise of your choice every day. Walking, yoga, skipping rope or working out to your favourite DVD. Get up a little earlier, go for a walk over lunchtime or change into your workout clothes before leaving the office.

It might seem hard for the first day, but you'll be surprised by how quickly you get into a routine and before you know it, it will feel like second nature!
