Exercising in your 30s

When you hit your 30s, regular exercise is key for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and keeping extra weight at bay.

Exercising increases energy, improves mental health, and helps with stress relief. It also helps increase bone density and decrease hypertension.

How much exercise should you do?

The U.S Department of Health and Human Services recommends the following guidelines:

  • Do at least two and a half hours of moderate-intensity exercise, or just over one hour of powerful aerobic exercise each week.

  • Include strength training in your exercise programme two days a week or more.

  • When you feel fitter, increase the moderate exercise to five hours a week. If you do more vigorous exercise, increase this to two and a half hours each week.

  • Healthy pregnant women should do at least two and half hours of moderate exercise each week. But, it's always a good idea – and recommended – to check with your doctor first.
