Lasagne is a long-time traditional winter comfort food. Unfortunately for us, it's not the healthiest of meals.

Here are a few tricks to making a lighter lasagne – without sacrificing on flavour...

  1. Use lean mince, chicken sausage.

  2. Replace meat altogether and use lentils, mashed beans or chickpeas instead for a veggie option.

  3. Cut down the amount of cheese used by half.

  4. Replace full-fat cheese with low-fat cheese.

  5. Pay attention to portion sizes – even if you cut down cheese or replace regular mince.

  6. Serve smaller portions with a large salad and lots of green vegetables on the side.
