Trying to lose weight might come easy enough for some, but for others, it may feel like one giant schlep that's sucking up all your time.

Does this sound familiar? When you're pressed for time during the week with work responsibilities, running a household, and everything else, it's easy to give into naughty craving temptations. Plus, you might also choose to forgo the recommended 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week because you simply don't have the time.

Be wise with your weekends

If you're serious about losing weight or getting into shape, your weekends are your golden opportunity for making this a priority. It makes a massive difference when you spend just a little time on a Saturday or a Sunday to plan for the week ahead.

  • Resist tempting food. Write up a grocery list for snacks and meals for the week ahead and shop for healthy, tasty, fresh food over the weekend.
  • Cut, chop, cook. Put some music on or catch up on your favourite series for an hour or two and prepare food for the week ahead. Boil rice, chop veggies, mix healthy salad dressings, etc. Pop them into marked containers and store them in the fridge and freezer. This way you can quickly and easily whip them out and dish them up.
  • Find your fun. Use the weekends to get in a longer workout if you only manage a few minutes during the week. Think outside the box to make things fun (it is, after all, the weekend!). Go for a scenic autumn hike with the family, try a new online dance or kickboxing workout, go ice-skating, or visit your local animal shelter and take a dog for a walk or a run.
