Our body requires a certain amount of energy to carry out its functions and carry us through the day. The more active we are, or the more physical the work we engage in, the more energy we may require.

It is important to kick-start your day with a healthy and nutritious breakfast that contains some source of protein as this will keep you satiated through to lunch time. Similarly lunch and dinner should also comprise of balanced meals that are nutritious to keep you energised.

If you find that you require a little boost of energy between meals, then enjoy a small snack but be sure to keep it healthy. Fruit, raw vegetables and nuts are great options. Avoid junk and processed foods as these will cause you to gain unnecessary weight.

If you feel hungry between main meals, ask yourself if you are really hungry. You may find that you are thirsty instead, and just need some water instead of food! Or you may be anxious, tired or bored, in which case a brisk walk round the block, or doing some jumping jacks or dancing could be more helpful.
