'NEPA' stands for Non-Exercise Physical Activity. This is any physical activity you may do that is recreational rather than training-specific.

Good examples include any type of walking (if you are able-bodied and not morbidly obese walking is NOT exercise), going for a bicycle ride, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or playing with your kids in the garden.

Sitting on the couch will NOT help you to lose weight of get in shape. [Tweet this] Going for a walk, while not hugely beneficial, can contribute a small amount to the bigger picture of your weight loss journey - and as they say, every bit counts.

Take the dogs for a walk, play sport with your kids, take the stairs, park further away from the shops instead of driving around the parking lot for an hour to find a spot close to the door. All these things chisel away at the extra fat you want to lose.
