Tips for a balanced diet and weight loss plan: What are you teaching your kids?

Balance is a funny thing

It seems logical that, since we know balance is good, we would strive for it and consider balanced ideas to be good ones. This, however, is not always the case.

Advertising and clever marketing strategies manage to convince us that orange is the new black, up is actually down and Keeping up with the Kardashians is “reality”.

The nutrition industry is no different, except it's your health that's being played with.

  • Remember in the '60s when fat was the reason we were fat? This led to the birth of the low-fat food industry. We followed that advice for a while, but the obesity epidemic continued to grow.
  • In the '90s the ‘gurus’ told us that fat was actually good for us, and that it was the carbs that were the problem. Enter the bacon-age. People drinking extra cream with their coffee while eating bacon with extra fat and sixteen deep fried eggs.

(Interestingly protein has never been demonised. Ask yourself why for an interesting journey into the food industry and animal agriculture)

Something that you pass on to your children and can live with for the rest of your life.

Why can we not just accept a balanced nutrition plan that can actually become a lifestyle?

The macronutrient reality is that there are three macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats and protein and we NEED them all in varying forms and amounts. This is dietary balance.

If you want the most logical, rational, healthful way to lose weight, you need a plan that embraces this truth. This is when dieting can become a lifestyle … something that you pass on to your children and can live with for the rest of your life.

This is balance, and you KNOW that balance is good.
