Tips for a balanced diet and weight-loss plan: Fruit vs sugar

(Fotalia: #101855206)

An apple a day

I know many people (well-meaning people) who are convinced that fruit will make them FAT. When you ask why, they say something about the fact that fruit contains SUGAR.

And they're RIGHT ...

Well, they're right that fruit contains sugar. Or A SUGAR, I should say.

You see, not all sugar is the same as the one you love so much - the one used in chocolate bars, fizzy drinks, cake, muffins and ice-cream. The one that sends your brain into a fog that allows you to devour entire slabs of chocolate before your tummy says 'No more!'.

The sugar in fruit is DIFFERENT!

Want proof? Here, have a banana. Wow, feel that crazy sugar-rush that makes you crave ten more? Have ten more anyway. No thanks? You've had enough?

When did you ever say that about chocolate-frosted donuts?!

It's NOT man-made and not uber-refined, or refined at all.

Without getting into too much detail, the sugar in fruit is an entirely different chemical structure.

It's NOT man-made and not uber-refined or refined at all. Fruit also contains fibre - which slows the absorption of the sugar into your bloodstream unlike your favourite candy - loads of vitamins and pure, hydrating water.

Fruit is a food that nature makes for us to eat

Fruits, nuts, vegetables (including leaves, root veggies etc) and seeds (including whole grains and legumes) are the ONLY foods nature makes for us to eat. Don't you think that means something? Fruits are nature's sweets. Energy food and treats all in one.

Fruit DOES NOT make you fat.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Have an apple, a banana, a pear, some grapes and a nectarine and make sure you live a long and healthy life.
