1. Refined carbohydrates

Refined carbohydrates are carbohydrate-rich foods that have been processed and had their fibre and certain nutrients removed for the sake of improved taste, texture or shelf-life.

Things like white bread, pasta, baked goods. etc., fall into this category.

Unprocessed carbs are very healthy as they are rich in fibre and nutrients and thus digest well and control blood sugar. Refined carbs cause inflammation in the body which can lead to disease.

When eating carbs, stick with fruits, veggies and wholegrain foods as these undergo far less processing and are thus much healthier.
