Tip: Track and measure

The REAL purpose of exercise is to get fitter and healthier than you were before.

The VERY nice by-product of the process is that you will lose weight if your diet is in line with what it should be.

If you want to keep getting fitter, then you have to have a way of tracking your progress. If you go out every day and run 10km in the same amount of time with the same level of exertion, you have remained the same. However, if you do 10km in a faster time you have increased your fitness right? Yup.

How YOU can track your progress

For whatever exercise you do, there are a number of ways to track your progress to ensure that you are improving.

All of these would give you some indication of your fitness level

For weight training you can track the amount of weight lifted in each exercise, the amount of rest you need between sets, the number of reps you can do with a particular weight, and your heart-rate at the completion of a particular exercise. All these would give you some indication of your fitness level.

For cardio exercise you can track your distance/time ratio, your level of exertion, and your heart rate.

Continue to challenge your body

The crux of the matter here is that you need to IMPOVE and continue to challenge your body if you want it to continue to refine itself and get fitter and leaner.

This is the easiest when you have some way of measuring yourself to make sure progress is actually being made. You'll be amazed at how rewarding it is to see your level of improvement as you track your exercise, and it'll encourage you to keep going.
