Fashionable Nutrition Myths: Get a six-pack in twelve weeks

(fotalia: #88772273)

The twelve-week diet - it's a 'thing'. And while I agree that it's a good idea to put an end-date on anything that is goal-orientated, I cringe when I see twelve-week diets advertising dramatic results.

The best (or worst) is the guarantee of six-pack abs in twelve weeks. When I see this I laugh. Why? Because six-pack abs are VERY tough to get.

Ask me... I've tried. Many times. I've been close, but the actual six-pack requires a level of dedication that normal people like me (who are not elite athletes or models) don't have time for in the day.

If you can wake up at 04h30, do a workout, eat a couple of egg whites for breakfast, go to work, eat dry rice and a boiled chicken breast for lunch, get home, do a workout, eat chicken and rice again for dinner and then go to bed, EVERY DAY for six months or so, then you may get some impressive abs.

Otherwise, I'm sorry to say you're probably out of luck.

You can get a GREAT looking stomach, but a chiselled set of abs takes work

Ask pro bodybuilders. They only have their abs in competition season. Otherwise they have good-looking, flat stomachs - and these guys do it for a living.

Oh, and by the way, the people on the adverts for these diets? They have been PHOTOSHOPPED, and the pics were taken in really good lighting. Yes, they have good bodies, but they aren't as good as they appear... PLUS, they probably never did the diet in question anyway.

You CAN get a six-pack in twelve weeks from now... if you already ALMOST have one.

Set realistic goals for yourself and be happy when you achieve them... and don't believe everything you read in diet adverts.
