Average Winter Weight Gain

Winter has its awesome side: ski weekends, hot chocolate runs, and the chunky sweaters (who doesn’t love a good chunky sweater?). But then there’s the drawback—weight gain. A new poll reported on in The Daily Mail found that 59 percent of women say they pack on pounds in the winter months, with the average weight gain coming in at 4.5 lbs.

What’s driving the extra poundage? Half of the women in the poll, which was conducted by Linwoods Superfoods, blamed it on the weather, claiming that cold, dark days compel them to indulge in high-calorie comfort foods. A third of the women polled also said that the frigid temps caused them to ditch their gym routines.

Escape the winter weight-gain trap by laying off of calorie-laden dishes (try these slimmed-down comfort foods instead) and motivating yourself to make it to the gym.
