Jennifer Lawrence Thinks it Should Be Illegal To Call Someone Fat On TV

Jennifer Lawrence is known for speaking her mind—and she continued the trend when talking to Barbara Walters for the ABC News special Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating people of 2013. To quote J-Law: “I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV. I mean, if we’re regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words because of the effect they have on our younger generation, why aren’t we regulating things like calling people fat?”

Jennifer has said in the past that she’s often considered “fat” by Hollywood executives, and she’s been very vocal about not wanting to lose weight for roles. While promoting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire earlier this year, she said, “There are shows like Fashion Police that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on all the wrong values and that it’s OK to point at people and call them ugly or fat.”

Tell us: What do you think of the law J-Law’s proposing?

Would you support a law that made calling people fat on TV illegal?
  • Yes; TV shouldn’t encourage young people to judge others based on their weight.
  • No—this isn’t a case where censorship is warranted.
