Is cardio alone enough for weight loss? (Fitness query of the day)

Weight loss

Hi,I am 25 year-old guy and a quiet obese. I’ve started going to gym recently and have found that people advice me to do cardio for weight loss and then do weight training for muscle gain. Is this true, will doing only cardio help me lose weight?

It’s always cardio that takes away all the credits for weight loss. But, the fact is that along with cardio, weight training is equally important to lose weight. You may find people who want to lose weight queuing up for the cardio machines and hardly using the weight training machines. We suggest, don’t follow the herd. In fact, if you want to lose weight and keep it off permanently, then weight training along with cardio is your best bet.

Fitness icon Kris Gethin wrote in his book The Bodybuilding.com Guide to Your Best Body, ‘When you start training regularly with weights, your muscles develop, become denser, and burn more calories all day and night. Though cardio is a great way to assist in fat loss, it burns fat only while you’re performing the exercise, not around the clock. Lifting weights and adding lean muscle, on the other hand, turns your body into a full-time calorie-burning machine. If you were to add just 5 pounds of muscle to your frame, you could burn an additional 250 to 300 calories per day—that’s a whole meal for some people!’

When your body is exposed to lifting weights, the process involves breaking of muscles which eventually leads to using up of more calories for building new ones. It makes your body a full-time calorie burner and shows better result. In the end, you can create a combined cocktail of exercises to create an ideal exercise regime that will help you lose weight.
