Can drinking warm water with lemon and honey help lose weight? (Weight Loss Query)

Honey and warm water

I am a 42-year-old housewife. I am a little overweight. I have heard that drinking warm water with honey and lemon helps lose weight? Is it true? If yes, then how many times in a day should I drink this concoction and when?

Drinking warm water with honey and lemon is an age-old and well-known practice in India. Honey is rich in vitamins, minerals and other amino acids. These nutrients put together help speed up the body’s metabolism. Unlike other sugars, honey has a comparatively low glycemic index. Furthermore, it can aid in stabilising blood sugar levels and improving digestion which in turn can aid calorie utilisation and burn fat. Lemon contains the fibre pectin which helps you stay full for a longer period of time keeping hunger pangs at bay. Lemon also being rich in vitamin C triggers certain chemical reactions that help to break down the body fat for use as energy.

Combining honey and lemon with warm water and drinking it especially in the morning can keep calories in-check and detoxify the body by flushing out toxins. It is believed that fat is stored as an unutilised source adding to the bulk of the body. Honey with warm water and lemon can mobilize and burn the body fat. Warm water keeps you hydrated. In addition, warm water also helps eliminate waste products from the intestine.

The best time to consume this concoction is in the morning. Just a glass of it on an empty stomach is good enough to reap its benefits.

Although honey and lemon can trigger weight loss, drinking this concoction is not the only thing you should do for losing weight. Any weight loss programme should always be accompanied by a healthy diet and regular exercise. However, if you do not experience any change in weight over a period of time it is best to consult a doctor or a nutritionist.
