I am a 23-year-old man who has just joined the gym. I weigh 80 kg now and I have to lose 10 kilos. I wanted to know if I can lose more weight if I sweat more.
According to fitness experts, sweating does not promise more weight loss. It is a common myth as people think if they sweat more, they burn more calories while working out or lose water weight. While sweating does deplete water from the body, excessive sweating can have ill-effects like dehydration, loss of vital minerals and electrolytes.
Why do we sweat?
Sweating is our body’s way of maintaining our body temperature. When the temperature rises, we tend to sweat more and vice versa. Experts Dhruv and Prachi Gupta explain that men tend to sweat more than women because they have larger bodies and also because women sweat at a higher temperature ‘Losing It’. Here are 6 fat-burning exercises you should try.
They also add that the fitter you are, the lesser you sweat while working out. This is one of the reasons why you sweat more when you just start working out. A few weeks down the line, you will sweat less doing the same exercise. This is because your body is able to handle the same work more easily. For the same reason, overweight people tend to sweat more as their fat acts as an insulator under the skin.
So if you are planning to shed kilos, make sure you slowly increase the intensity of your workout and add certain variations to the routine once you start seeing results. This way, your body will not get used to a certain workout and you can burn more calories. Here are some tips.
