Diet Dont Work

How many weight loss programs have you tried over the years? If you're like me, many. If you're also like me, they haven't worked too well. For 30 years, my weight yo-yo'ed between 145 and 190 lbs. It was like being on a roller-coaster - up then down, up then down, a big up then another down.

I finally came to the conclusion a few years ago that weight loss diets just don't work. And they don't.

There are several reasons why this is so - and the most significant reason is the secret technique I discovered 18 months ago.

Instead of seeing a diet as an event that lasted for only a certain period when I was focused on loosing weight, I started thinking of my eating habits as part of my lifestyle that would continue with me for the rest of my life. I needed to implement some changes in the foods I ate and change some of my behaviors around food and eating. I learned what foods provide good nutrition and what foods are duds nutritionally. Of course, my favorites were the duds - and I learned how to treat myself to my favorites with moderation.

I got some help too. I consulted some professionals who helped me make some attitudinal and behavioral changes - things like not eating while watching TV or reading while I ate. They also taught me how to change how I thought of myself, how to change my negative beliefs about myself. My change to positive beliefs about myself was one of the keys in changing my eating habits to lose weight and keep it off as well.

I also increased my exercise routine. I took up ballroom and swing dancing -such a great way to keep the weight down. I bought a rebounder - one of those small trampolines that let you bounce without pounding down your body like running does. I made a point to include some type of exercise at least 30 minutes per day, six days per week. There are so many options here: bicycling, swimming, hatha yoga, basketball, tennis, martial arts. Of course, the simplest and least expensive is walking. Just get off the couch or away from your computer and get your body moving.

Journaling the foods I ate played a big role too. I had it in black or blue (ink) and white what I was putting into my mouth every day. Boy, were my eyes opened when I started keeping track. Foods that I reached for unconsciously out of stress or emotional eating were no longer unregistered-in-my-mind foods. They had a name and they had an amount and I was shocked.

I also found out how many calories were in the foods I was eating. Do you know that a pint of ice cream has about 800 calories? That's about one half of my daily caloric count - and I was eating that pint in one sitting! That didn't leave much else for me to eat that day.

What really brought my eating habits and lack of nutrition home was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. After the treatments ended, I knew I had to make a change. I was introduced to a system of nutritional products that had a secret weapon to help me loose weight and keep the weight off. For 18 months now, I've been using this system with the secret weapon and I'm at the lowest weight I've been in my life. I have never felt so good and I have never looked so good.
