Laser Treatment for Cellulite: the Jurys Still Out

First off, if you are a man and have cellulite, don't bother with laser treatment for cellulite. It's not normal for men to have cellulite. Go to the doctor. Your hormones and reproductive organs are not working properly. It will not get better on its own. But if you are a woman and have cellulite, you don’t need to go to the doctor. You are normal, healthy and not necessarily overweight.

But It Looks Weird

Cellulite does look a bit strange. It is not something of our bodies that we are comfortable with. It's a lot like wrinkle or pimples – normal, but a little creepy. For some reason, cellulite has been equated with age and illness. Actually, nearly the day after you hit puberty, you get stuck with cellulite. It's no big deal.

However, if you work in a trade where your body is on display, then it would be a reasonable career move to reduce or eliminate as much of your cellulite as possible. Laser treatment for cellulite is a promising new way to battle the bulges, but it has only been available since 2005. There still are some unanswered questions as to its safety and effectiveness.

If you do decide on laser treatments for cellulite, than know that you have to help your body. You need to eat a healthy diet with plenty of water and fiber, exercise regularly and learn how to handle your stress. There is some proof that women with really heavy constant stress loads will show more cellulite than others. This is only logical, as the hormone your body puts out during stress lowers your metabolism.

Other Concerns

Although laser treatment for cellulite is easier on the body than straight surgery, it often is used in combination with liposuction. This should require anesthesia. And, you usually need more than one session in order for the laser treatment for cellulite to be effective. This is incredibly expensive. Since this is not a life-saving procedure, no health insurance company will cover one penny of it.

On the plus side, laser treatments for cellulite so far have shown very little recovery time and very few adverse side effects. Still, the recovery period is not the same for everyone. You need to talk with your regular doctor before scheduling an expensive appointment. A reputable cosmetic surgeon will not give you laser treatment for cellulite before getting your doctor's okay and reviewing your medical history.
