Why Do You Have Sugar Cravings?

The majority of people experience sugar cravings at least once throughout the day. Especially if you are eating an unpredictable, unhealthy diet, you probably get sugar cravings all the time. Now if you want to get in shape and stay fit, you are going to have to learn more about sugar cravings, why you get them and what you can do to stop sugar cravings.

What Causes Them?

There are a few different causes that are commonly responsible for sugar cravings. One is that you are eating too many refined carbohydrates. It is important to be aware of this if this is the case, because refined foods do not satisfy your body and so you really want to avoid eating them. You will notice that you can keep eating more and more of these foods but in the end you are still not full.

On the other hand, if you were to eat some nutritious food such as carrots or whole grain breads, you would be full almost immediately after you stop eating. It is so easy to eat ten, twenty cookies or other confections, because these are refined foods, and so they don’t fill you up. But if you were to eat baked sweet potatoes or slow cooked oatmeal, do you think that you could ever binge on these foods?

It is pretty simple once you understand more about it, and realize that there is a reason you can eat so many treats and candies and just not get full.

Therefore, instead of eating refined foods you are going to want to replace these foods with nourishing whole foods that are actually going to be filling and provide your body with the vitamins and nutrients that it needs.

Another common cause of sugar cravings is a habitual use of sugar. If you consume sugar on a regular basis, you need to be aware that it is going to be very hard to get over this. Quitting sugar consumption is almost as hard as quitting smoking, and just as with quitting smoking the first few days or so are going to be the worst of all.

Sugar stimulates your appetite and the more that you eat, the more you want. This is the problem, the reason why so many people are overweight today. You can think of your cravings as being stray cats. It sounds funny, but it is true. If you keep feeding them, they are going to keep coming back, but if you put a stop to it and don’t give in and feed them, they will soon disappear.
