Is Craving Sweets During Pregnancy Normal?

Whether you have early pregnancy cravings or cravings during only the third trimester of your pregnancy, you should know that this is completely normal. Most women report experiencing craving sweets during pregnancy and this is probably most normal of all. Especially if you had a sweet tooth before, you will probably notice that it is doubled while you are pregnant.

Real or Imagined?

The big question that many women have then is whether craving sweets during pregnancy is real or if they are just imagining it. Well there are a few different facts here that you need to be aware of. For one, the main reason that women are craving sweets during pregnancy or have any other type of craving for that matter is because their bodies are working harder.

When it is just your body that you are feeding, you probably had few to no cravings, and they weren’t as constant. When you are pregnant on the other hand, your body is having to work twice as hard because it is working to feed and provide for two people instead of one.

As a result, it needs more calories to get by and this results in cravings, often craving sweets during pregnancy.

Now although giving in to your cravings while you are pregnant is certainly not always a bad thing you do have to be careful about just how far you let it go. After all, if you always give in to your cravings and find that you are eating sweets all the time, you are probably going to end up putting on a lot more weight than you would like.

You don’t want to be unhealthy for you or baby, and so you are going to have to watch what you are eating. At least make sure that every time you give in to a craving for something sweet or otherwise unhealthy, that you eat something healthy as well. This way you know that your baby is going to be getting the vitamins and nutrients that they need to strive.

Craving sweets during pregnancy is normal however, and so if you do, at least you can feel reassured knowing that this is normal and that there is nothing wrong with you. If you find that you are having cravings too often it feels like, you can always talk to your doctor about this and they may be able to offer you ideas and tips on how to deal with these cravings and not always let them get the best of you.

On the other hand, if you are having cravings for healthy foods, then just feel free to basically eat as much as you want.
