How to Lose Stomach Fat – 3 Misconceptions on How to Lose Stomach Fat

If you want to know how to lose stomach fat, you'd do well to avoid the advice of many of your friends, coworkers, and so-called diet "gurus."  Everyone's got their own ideas on fat loss, and most of them are wrong.  Here are 3 common misconceptions on how to lose stomach fat.

1. You can Target Stomach Fat

One of the silliest things people who don't know how to lose stomach fat do is to do endless sets of crunches and other abdominal exercises.  Get this in your head – you CANNOT "spot-reduce" fat from any part of your body.

Your genetics determine the way your body distributes fat.  To lose fat in any one area, you must diet and exercise so as to lose fat all over your entire body.  Never fear, though, because you will certainly see fat coming off your stomach as you do in other areas, as well.

2. Endless Cardio is a Good Thing

In addition to doing tons of abdominal exercises, a lot of people who don't know how to lose stomach fat advocate doing tons and tons of cardiovascular exercise to get leaner.  While cardio is important, it is not the end-all, be-all of fat loss exercise.

If anything, weight training is more important.  Even if you don't want to get very muscular, the little bit of muscle tissue you can gain from weight training will boost your metabolism and help your body burn more fat all day long!  This means much quicker results.

3. Diet is Secondary to Exercise

The best method on how to lose stomach fat is to get your diet in order.  It's true, you can't out-work a bad diet.  Why do you think you see so many people working their butts off in the gym year after year, only to remain fat?  Their diets suck!  If you really want to know how to lose stomach, you'll need to plan a diet that is rich in proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, and plenty of essential vitamins and minerals.
