People very often try to decide what kind of a cardio workout is the most effective or what kind of a exercise machine they should use. But the truth is that cardio workouts are not the best for burning fat. The best workout for fat loss is weight training actually. Most women think that muscle building makes them look like those huge women bodybuilders, who sound like men. But that is not true at all. Muscle gives you the lean and fit look, that dieting or cardio workouts never do.

The problem with cardio exercises is that, although they burn calories very well during the exercise, but once you stop, then you no longer burn calories. If you want to lose fat successfully and also keep it off, then you have to increase the number of calories you burn 24/7. And weight training can do that.

If you do weight training then you also build muscle, and the more muscle you have the faster your basal metabolic rate (BMR) gets. It takes a lot of calories just to maintain muscle and the more you have it, the more calories you burn. Here is a quick example for you.

Basal Metabolic Rate BMR (men and women) = (21.6 X lean body mass in kilograms) + 370

For example a women weighing 75 kilograms with 30% body fat, has a BMR of 1504 calories a day. So if another women, who weighs exactly the same, but with a body fat of 20%, then she would have a BMR of 1666 calories a day. So that is a 162 calorie difference a day. There is a 3500 calories in a pound of fat, so the women with 10% body fat can 1 pound of fat, after every 22 days. That is why weight training is the best workout for fat loss. Of course I am not saying that cardio is useless, it is very important and you should do it, but please include weight training to your exercise program as well. As you can see, it helps you a lot.
