HCG: Diet and Exercise

When you are undergoing therapy for weight loss with HCG, diet and exercise play a slightly different part than they do in most weight loss programs. In fact, vigorous exercise is one of the last things you should do while taking HCG.

While this may seem counter-intuitive, it actually makes a great deal of sense when you consider our evolutionary background.

A Survival Mechanism

In nature, the only commandment is “survive.” The bodies of all mammal species are programmed to store fat against times of food shortages; at the same time, the part of the brain that controls metabolism (the hypothalamus gland) slows the body down so it burns less energy.

This is what sabotages most people's attempts to lose weight. When caloric intake is cut, the hypothalamus slows the body's metabolism in an attempt to conserve energy resources. It is similar to slowing your automobile and allowing it to coast using a minimal amount of throttle in order to conserve gasoline.

Vigorous exercise causes the body to expend resources; it is why we get hungry after strenuous physical activity. Unfortunately, this alerts the hypothalamus, which in turn cuts back on our “throttles” even more in order to save what little energy is left – and hoard any extra in the form of fat cells so as to prevent starvation.

Cutting Calories

Although you will be cutting calories when on the HCG regimen, the treatment literally “tricks” your hypothalamus into using your fat cells for energy instead of hoarding them. Normally, you will ingest only about 500 calories a day on the HCG diet, but because the hormone is ordering your hypothalamus to burn fat cells, weight loss occurs naturally and the metabolism – your body's “accelerator” - is left wide open.
