Just How Much Should I Eat To Lose Weight. What Should My Calorie Intake Be?

This is the question that has been asked for years and years and is a legitimate question to ask. How much should I eat? How much is 2000 calories? It is very difficult for us to put a relative size to a number. Yes we all know what a 3lb bag of sugar or a pound of butter looks like size wise but 2000 calories?

As foods are different in composition as well it is extremely difficult to say how much an item is, a chocolate bar can be 300 calories or more whereas a large cabbage for instance could be 60 calories ( I don't know exactly ,it's only an example here to show you). So you can see the dilemma facing people when they start to diet and if you have never even looked at calories before or dieted then it is or at least feels like an impossible task and becomes very difficult to lose weight.

There is an average number of calories that is used as a guideline and that is as recommended by the UK Department of Health as a daily calorie intake of 1940 for women and 2550 for men. This is of course only an average as everyone is different but it gives you the goalposts to work with. There are many other factors such as health, age fitness to consider as well so it can be very confusing to some.

Many of us want to eat less to lose weight and as a rule only eat until you are comfortably full. I remember before I lost my 3 stone in weight I used to eat a meal and felt bloated afterwards as I'd eaten too much but I still did it again the next time and so on until I changed my mindset and became positive and committed to losing weight. I then only ate just enough to be comfortable and as I progressed over the weeks I found myself eating sensibly and by substituting crisps and biscuits and bread for fresh fruit and nuts I saw the pounds slide off me and I'm now at my desired weight. If you are finding it hard to just eat comfortably then swap your dinner plate for a smaller one so it still looks full but has less food on it than before.

It is no fun being overweight as for most of us it is a health risk through heart disease or other illness and these calories are only a guideline for you.

I also took on a daily exercise program to go alongside my diet and with the extra work my body was doing it raised my metabolism and increased my breakdown of fats and calories to accommodate this extra work.

But if you change your diet to eating more fresh fruit and fresh vegetables and cut down on the meat then you can eat pretty much the quantity of food you like as most fruits and veg are fat burning foods and from experience of eating vegetables such as raw carrots they are very filling indeed so help between meals too.
