Walking outside, I notice people always connected on the web. I see it while in line waiting for their turn, waiting for food to be served at a restaurant. People on their blackberry's mobile handsets logged and connected 24 hour, 7 days a week practically. There are over 200 million people who have a myspace account! That tells you the increase of web activity these days.

What happens when you get into a whirlwind of wasting time on the web. You're getting unhealthier. Many actually have an increase in blood pressure just being "wired and logged in" all day. Checking and answering emails at the moment they come in. Always being connected is sometimes the best way to get dis-connected from life's real issues.

You're kids, spouse or family members notice you are being to over-connected to the internet and are losing respect for you because you no longer have respect for yours as well as their time.

You're forgetting your fitness commitment. Maybe your losing track of your next healthy meal or snack.

You're certainly not active at all. Sitting there isn't burning you much calories and your noticing you tummy is protruding more.

You could be losing ground and focus on your fitness game plan.

So what could you do?

Go ahead and you could simply unplug the computer and stay off.

But that isn't going to work long.

I've done that myself. It didn't work. I would just plug it back after an hour imaging I had some life changing email in my inbox I had to get to. But if it was truly life changing or important, I'd probably have someone calling me instead with the news.

You could tell yourself your going to go cold turkey. But that would also be ineffective.

But there is a sense of instant gratification that many of us "need". To hear the latest news or read the most common post on myspace.

Here's strategies I'd give you.:

I would seek help. Maybe the problem is your escape. It's an escape for you from anxiety or relationship issues. You can seek help from a professional like a psychotherapist from some underlying reason. You can pick up skills from a professional on stress management on whatever it is that's bothering you.

You should find out what is triggering your problem. I like to use the acronym HALTS. Are you hungry, angry, lonely, tired or stressed. So create a list of other things you can do, alternative things to do with feelings.

If you're being compulsive then you need to reduce your time spent online. Set reasonable goals for yourself. For example, if you spend 8 hours a day online, try cutting it back to a 45 minutes to an hour. Maybe you could schedule it in your day planner or desk calendar the times and days that you'll allow yourself time and when you won't.

Instead of going cold turkey, just plan really short burst, maybe 5 minutes bursts several times a day. This can help eliminate the cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

List 3-5 problems related to excessive use of the internet followed by 3-5 potential benefits of using the internet less. For example, maybe your relationship is strained or your gain inches around the waistline from being so inactive. You're potential benefits could be more quality time spent with your partner and also the time used off the net is time spent in the gym. Put this list in areas around the house where it is very visible for you to view often as a reminder.

Another thing I could suggest that have worked will for myself and clients. You could change your schedule to disrupt or to sideline your normal routine.

For example, if you usually check the internet by yourself. Lets say after you get your coffee you read on front of the computer. Maybe after your coffee or even after breakfast you check your inbox. Or better yet, you do your exercise workout after coffee then check your internet. You the internet as a reward. If you typically log-in after your drive home from work. Instead, wait till after dinner.

Use a timer and set it for 15-20 minutes. Break the pattern of being sucked in. Walk away from the computer and do something completely different. Talk a walk, call a friend on your cell for a boost of encouragement..

Many people are "silently addicted" to a lot of stuff.

I also notice this additive habit even for myself at home (a period in my life) I was heavy into the social networking sites.

I would log on and be surfing the web for research or my latest message on myspace. I turn my head to the clock and next thing I know, I'm an hour or two into "wasting time" on the web. A "myspace junkie" if you will.

Yeah, I had to justify. Was this productive to my health and fitness goals.

I would ask that question.

I keep contact with many clients online which was this contributing to my income cash flow.

Most of the time, it was not... and I was not getting anywhere with my fitness goals or my fitness business.

The internet is designed to suck you in with ads, flashing lights and banners that's habit-forming like television.

Many pages are designed to keep you "sucked in" on the pages.

As you can see, these are awesome ways to get away from unproductive habits from the net. Keep your self from disconnecting from the "real issues" in your life and get back to the real world.

Get hands-on, thinking clearly, and offline not online and back on focus with your slimming, trimming, fat burning and success goals.
