The first key is to stay motivated. I realize that this can be difficult especially if your progress has stalled. When you first start a weight loss program, the pounds seem to easily come right off. Many experience a loss of 10 lbs or more during the first week alone!

This can be deceiving. Suddenly, the progress comes to a screeching halt. Once the progress stops, frustration sets in, and most find it increasingly difficult to stay motivated.

You must keep your motivation levels up in order for you to continue to make progress, which leads us to our second key to successful weight loss...

The second key is to be consistent. I conducted a survey recently where I asked 50 people what their main obstacle was for not achieving their weight loss goals. A whopping 56% of respondents cited lack of consistency as their number one reason.

What can we take from this? It's absolutely necessary for you to remain consistent in your weight loss efforts instead of the "wishy washy" approach most people take. A lack of consistency will negate any benefits you might attain regardless of how great you think your exercise routine, or your diet, is.

How do you expect to lose weight if you're not following your diet on a daily basis? How do you expect to lose weight if you only follow your exercise program once every couple of weeks? The answer is, you won't. You must stay consistent if you want to achieve your weight loss goals.

The third, and final key to weight loss success is to choose the right program. You're motivated, and you're consistent, but you're still not losing weight. What's the problem? It might be the diet and exercise program you're currently on.

Sometimes the hype is hard to resist but, stay away from so called "cleansing," "detox," or liquid diets that promise pounds of fat loss in a matter of days. Avoid exercise programs that have you working out for hours on the treadmill, or that require that you to buy expensive gadgets. If it's too good to be true, it most likely is.
