Is Walking And Dieting Enough To Lose Weight?

You are on a diet and you walk everyday is this enough to lose weight. In most cases it would be a step in the right direction. The walk would have to gradually become longer and more of a challenge to be any good. Most people start out with a diet and start walking and at some time they notice that they are not losing weight.

This plateau could come from a variety of reasons and some of these could be found in your journal. Look back and see if you notice a change in your eating amounts even if they are slight. The journal can clear up many problems if it is kept honestly. If you cannot discover the reason by looking at your journal or you are not keeping a journal their are some things you need to look at.

You might be adding calories in your diet and not realize it. Most people on a diet drink soda and other drinks and forget to add them into the calorie intake or add them into their journals and do not realize that this alone can make your walking almost a waste of time. The idea behind exercising is to create a calorie deficit in your body. It normally takes 3500 calories burned to lose a pound of weight.

If you are not on a diet and just trying to walk your way to weight loss you will have to walk a lot to get that deficit as walking does not burn many calories. Walking and doing other anaerobic exercises will increase your chance of losing weight. You in actuality need both a well balanced diet and both types of exercise to lose weight.

Most people when they start on a diet start with walking as it is a low impact exercise and a great exercise to start out with. It will get your body into a routine of movement and exercise that your body has not seen in long time. As your diet proceeds and you become more comfortable with losing weight and exercise you will need to increase the challenge ion the body so your body will work harder. If walking is what you enjoy then try adding ankle weights and speed up the walk. You can make them longer or find a place with rolling hills that make you work. If walking is something you tried and want to move on there is cycling both on a bike or a stationary bike or other machines.

The long and short is that walking may not be the most ideal way to do your daily exercise, but it will work if done properly. Many people have lost weight by walking but they have watched their diets closely and made every calorie burned count. You have a variety of ways to increase the effectiveness of walking and there are many books that cover this topic and remember to drink large amounts of water.
