Diet Weakness - Do You Have One?

When trying to lose weight, you have to find your diet weakness. That part of the day, where your willpower is “zero“ and the vending machine or the convenience store across the street start looking really good.

For some people, that maybe mid morning, or for many people it is quite often 3 pm. That afternoon slump. Next thing you know that vending machine is staring at you, and then you are fumbling for change, or borrowing from friends for change.

Now after you eat that chocolate bar, or bag of chips, you temporarily feel good, then the slump hits again. As these are simple carbohydrates, that raise your blood sugar and then drop it quickly. So, now you are back to the slump and in debt to your co-workers for all the change!

The best way to deal with diet weakness is to plan. You are probably thinking, “great something else I have to do“ as you look at your endless list of “to do‘s“. But if you take just a few minutes now to plan your day. Mentally take yourself through your day, and think what you could take to work. Try to make your own lunch, and make sure to pack healthy snacks for those weak moments!

Next time you are at the grocery store, take a little extra time to come up with snack ideas. If you know you will not spend too much time on snack and lunch preparation, then find something at the grocery store, that is already packaged, such as the yogurts, and the granola bars. Throw in some apples, and you have some great snacks.

Make sure they are something you are going to like. Personally, I am not a fan of the rice cakes, just don’t do it for me, but I know they have fiber. So, I have been purchasing those 100 calorie snacks you can get now. I absolutely depend on the 100 calorie pop corn. I can use the microwave at work, and the package is easy to throw in my lunch bag, but for 100 calories it fills me right up and gets me through, and tastes good. I sometimes will eat an apple with it for that sweet crunch, and I am good until dinner. Popcorn just seems to fill me up.

So, take a look at those 100 calorie snack ideas. It may mean some extra groceries, but you were paying top dollar for vending machine snacks anyways, so this way you have a variety of snacks to choose from at home. This way, when you feel that mid afternoon or mid morning slump coming on, you will be ready. It would be best if you could snack before that slump hits, that way you don’t miss a beat in your day!
