Concerned About Hcg Diet Safety

The Food and Drug Administration has not officially approved the HCG Diet as a form of weight loss. However, it is still available by prescription and through mail order. If you plan to use HCG injections, you will need to obtain it from a physician or weight loss clinic by prescription. However, homeopathic HCG drops are easy and affordable to obtain on your own.

In either case, the important component of the HCG program is the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) of 500 calories a day – the equivalent of one small meal per day. Under normal circumstances, a person would be putting their health and well-being at considerable risk from undernourishment by restricting calories so severely. However, with HCG in the system, dieters not only receive proper nutrition despite the dearth of calories obtained from food, they don't even feel deprived or hungry after the first day or two.

About Human Chorionic Gonadotropin

HCG is one of the many hormones that allow bodily functions to operate smoothly. They are present in all biological life forms, including plants. These biochemical "messengers" essentially tell cells what to do and how to function.

HCG does its main work during the gestation process, protecting the developing fetus and providing it with a viable environment in which to grow while regulating many of its metabolic processes. Much of this HCG remains with us after we are born. It is gradually depleted by the time we reach adulthood however, due to the nature of our modern diet of over processed and chemically adulterated foods.

How It Works

While you may only ingest 500 calories from food while on the HCG diet, you will still be living on the normal amount of 1,500-2,500 calories a day. This is why the program is completely safe from a nutritional standpoint. HCG unlocks those stubborn excess fat deposits (known as adipose) and makes them readily available to the body as a food source while maintaining a normal metabolic rate.

This incidentally is why the 500-calorie diet, as specified in the Simeons protocols, is so important. It helps to force your body to obtain missing nutrients from body fat. While some people do experience minor side effects such as constipation and mood swings (which happen with virtually any kind of hormone therapy), these problems are very rare. Otherwise, HCG has been proven one of the safest and most effective methods of weight loss yet developed.
