Stop Food Cravings

It's 4:00. Your TPS report needs to be in by Friday, and you need to get the kids dinner on the way home. Mmmm dinner. Man, a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream would be good right about now. Maybe you'll have one when you get home. The day wears on, you get home to your beloved scoop of ice cream. After all, you've earned it, right? Somehow, before you can blink, the whole carton is empty, and you're scraping away at the bottom to get whatever little bits of chocolate you can salvage. What happened?

Except for a lucky few, we all get food cravings. They certainly aren't going to help with our diet, so we need to stop food cravings dead in their tracks. Here are a few ways to do that.

Stay Away From Trigger Foods
Trigger foods. You know what I'm talking about. If you eat one fig newton, the whole sleeve is gone. One spoonful of ice cream means you don't stop until you hit the bottom of the tub. If you don't take the first bite, you won't binge on the rest.

Start Eating Whole Foods
By whole foods, I mean veggies and fruits. Their loaded with fiber that fills you up, and eating them for several days while avoiding trigger foods actually reduces food cravings. Heck, you might even start to like them.

Stop Drinking Juice And Pop
There are so many benefits from eating your calories instead of drinking them. One is that it can stop food cravings. Sugary drinks instill a desire for more sugar. Thus the more you drink, the more you want to drink. It's almost like a drug. Some soft drinks also have high fructose corn syrup which can shut off the part of your brain that tells you you're full. So you just keep eating and drinking.

Start Drinking Water
If you're not drinking juice and pop, you'll want to drink something else, right? Don't whip up a margarita just yet. I was talking about water. If you ever feel a food craving coming on, you might be able to stop it by having a drink of water. If you're not drinking enough water throughout the day, your brain may be confusing hunger with thirst. It'd be a shame to get through a whole pint of rocky road to find out you were just thirsty, wouldn't it?
