Very often you would here as the main reason that fasting is not a good option for losing weight or fat that it slows down your metabolism. In this way, the argument goes, you are not taking in calories, but you are not burning them either, so you can not lose that extra weight.

This could not be farther from the truth and there is a simple scientific explanation for that. The human body needs the same amount of energy for its daily operations regardless of whether you are fasting or not, in the same way that your car needs the same amount of gasoline regardless of how much you have in the tank. The only difference comes from the fact that when your stomach is full, your body is actually burning calories to digest the food, but that amount is negligible compared to the total amount.
