This is being promoted over and over by many Hollywood actors and actresses, models and even 'health' enthusiasts. But what really is this diet? Is this really effective?

Low carb dieting constitutes decreasing the amount of carbohydrates taken in. This means that a person on this diet must reduce intake of foods like breads, pastries, pastas, noodles, rice and cakes. The idea behind this is that carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars during digestion. When your body has a lot of these simple sugars, you tend not to burn fats for fuel. The body would naturally opt to burn these simple sugars rather the fats you have because they are easier to burn. If you go on a low car diet, you decrease your sugar levels so more fats are burned and of course, less fat is stored.

There are many different types of low carb diets out there. These diets have different recommendations as to how much carbohydrates are allowed. But whatever the amount suggested is, one thing is common and this is the amount of carbohydrates should be significantly and dramatically reduced.

Low carb dieting is done not only by people who are trying to lose weight. This is also recommended to people with diabetes.
