High Protein Low Carb Diet – How to Lose Fat with a High Protein Low Carb Diet

If you're trying to lose fat and get into better shape, one of the best things you can do is to watch your carbohydrate intake.  This doesn't mean that the Atkins, high-fat diets are the best option, but eating fewer starches will help nearly everyone lose weight.  Here are 3 great tips for a high protein low carb diet.

1. Protein at Every Meal

Whether or not you're severely restricting your carbohydrate intake, you need to make lean sources of protein the focus of every meal.  This is especially true of a high protein low carb diet.  Choose sources such as lean poultry, lean red meat, eggs, and low fat dairy.  If you want a little bit more fat to make up for the carbs you're not eating, add it in the form of nuts or oils instead of eating unhealthy, fatty cuts of meat.  Your heart healthy and body fat levels will thank you!

2. Don't skimp on the Fats

Now of course you still need to watch your fat intake, but if you're eating this way, you can afford to add some extra fat to your high protein low carb diet.  Olive oil, nut oils, nuts, avocados, and the occasional fat from red meat can help you get the calories you need to function without hindering your fat loss.  Just make sure you don't go overboard!

3. Eat Your Veggies

One of the biggest criticisms of high protein low carb diets is that they are deficient in the kind of nutrients you can only get from fresh produce.  This is nonsense!  Whether or not you are going low in carbs, you should be eating plenty of fresh, green vegetables, for they are essential to healthy and fat loss.  Just make sure you avoid the starchy ones like potatoes and corn.
