Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) I'm Often Asked About Medifast

I've lost a good deal of weight on medifast so I'm often asked lots of questions about the program. Below are the answers to my most frequently asked questions. Keep in mind that I am not a doctor, but a regular 35 year old woman who has been on this diet long enough to form an opinion. My answers are based on my experiences and research.

1. How does medifast food taste?: For the most part, I find the food to be better than I expected and pretty good. I've eaten a lot of diet foods over the years and I consider this plan to be among the best. I particularly like the dessert and snack type options like the shakes, puddings, bars, oatmeal and crackers, but the chili and eggs are also good. There are two ways that I make the food taste as good as it possibly can. I use the Health Mate blender offered by the company because it makes the shakes and puddings very thick and rich. (Any high quality blender should work). I also add sugar and fat free syrups to the shakes, lattes, cappuccinos and oatmeal to give variety and enhanced taste. I also often add fat free cheese, salsa, sour cream and Tabasco sauce to the eggs, soups, and stews.

2. How does this program work?: Medifast is a meal replacement program which is low calorie and high protein. Typically, you will eat five of the program's meals daily and you will prepare one main healthy meal yourself. By consuming less carbs and calories, you will lose weight. Additionally, this plan is designed to put your body in ketosis. This is a fancy term for tricking you body into burning its own fat. Ketosis is in my opinion the biggest reason for the rapid weight loss many folks get on this program. Also, since you're eating very often (six times per day) your metabolism gets a boost and you don't feel as hungry as you might think.

3. What is a typical day on like? Here is an example of a typical day for me: I will usually have either medifast eggs or oatmeal for breakfast. I will add fat free cheese, sour cream and salsa to the eggs and fat and sugar free syrup to the oatmeal. At around 10:30, I will either have the program's latte, cappuccino or shake. For lunch, I usually eat the program's soup, stew or chili, again adding my own fat free embellishments. At around 2:30, I may have either a bar or pudding. For dinner, I prepare my own "lean and green meal" which is usually lean meat with stir fry veggies or salad. At around 8:30, I usually have the crackers or soy chips with humus or fat free dip. I try to power walk, roller blade or get some form of cardio every day. I also try to focus on toning as often as I can.

4. How much does the program cost? Most documentation will indicate $8 to $10 per day, but there are usually specials running and coupons available. (Examples of coupons are at http://easiest-diet.com/) The cost of your lean and green meals will vary depending on what types of foods you include. I personally find that I spend much less on this plan than I used to spend on groceries and impulsive treats that were not good for my figure or my wallet.

5. Does medifast really work? I am living proof that it does. I have failed on every diet imaginable before this one finally worked. I think this diet appeals to folks who like carbs, snacks and dessert type foods and want healthier, high protein versions of these on a regular basis. I also believe that it is because of the wide variety of safe choices available, the embellishments that can be made, and the fact that you eat so often that this plan is a big success. Also, because there are no calories to count or points to tally and the food is for the most part grab and go, this is a very convenient plan.
