Will I Be Hungry On Medifast? Will I Be Irritable?

People often ask me just how hungry they are going to be once they begin Medifast. They worry that they're going to jittery, irritable, and ravenous. I commonly hear comments like "just how hungry am I going to be on this diet and how long does the hunger last for?" I will try to address these concerns in the following article.

There Is An Adjustment Period When You Start Medifast, But Not Everyone Is Ravenously Hungry: It's probably unrealistic to think that you can lower the amount of fat, carbs, and calories that you take in and notice nothing different about your hunger level. The amount of calories that you are taking in are going to be altered. Your portions will likely be smaller than what you are used to. And the meals are more light fare like shakes, bars, soup, and oatmeal rather than heavy meals.

The good news is that you will be eating very regularly. Since you are going to be consuming six meals per day, you pretty much have to eat every few hours in order for this to work. Many people eat breakfast, a mid morning snack, lunch, an afternoon snack, dinner, and a night time snack. So, there's not any long periods of time where you have to white knuckle it without food.

The comments that I hear from people about this often vary widely. Some tell me that they were quite hungry for the first couple of days and others say that the bigger challenge was eating so regularly. Some tell me that they were very irritable and others say that they felt good about finally taking some action and making some change.

I don't think that either of this reactions reflects how you will do on the diet or how much weight you will lose. It's perfectly OK to have an adjustment period as long as you don't allow this to make you stop. Having a bit of adjustment is absolutely normal and is to be expected.

For The Most Part, You Begin To Get Used To Life On Medifast Once The Results Come: I find that most people adjust to this new way of eating relatively quickly. If you repeat the process enough times, it will eventually start to feel normal. And, once the weight begins to come off, you begin to realize that the effort and the adjustment was worth it and the sacrifice doesn't feel as great.

So yes, you may be a bit more hungry than what you are used to for the first few days as your body adjusts to your new regimen. But for many people, this isn't overwhelmingly problematic and doesn't last for very long.
