A weight loss tip needs to be something you'll actually do for it to work, right? So, I'd like to share some of the easiest and most effective weight loss tips that have helped me to achieve and maintain weight loss over the years.
1. Set the timer on snacks. Limit your after-school grazing to 10 or 20 minutes, and brush your teeth when you're done. You'll send a signal to your appetite that you're done, and you can focus on something else.
2. Candy is still fattening because of the sugar content. When sugar is not burned off, it turns into fat. So don't be mislead when you read a label and you see low amounts of fats. The calorie and sugar count matter too. If you are craving something sweet, munch on some sugar free candy or fruit instead.
3. Rather than eat quickly, take the time to really chew your food and let it settle before loading up your plate with seconds or thirds. It takes your stomach 20 minutes to register that it's been fed, so by the time you've wolfed down that second plate of dinner, you're apt to feel over-full and sick rather than comfortable. If you give your stomach the opportunity to determine that it's full, you won't overeat. It's a simple and easy diet tip to help you lose weight faster.
4. I have tended to use food to relax in the past, but breaking that habit has been a key behavior change that helped me lose weight. Is food the high point of your lunch or "coffee" break? Is eating how you de-stress during time away from your desk? Try making something else priority during your break, like taking a walk or listening to an audio book. That way you can relax without the tendency to over-eat or not eat mindfully.
5. Keep a food diary and write down everything you eat. While it can be tedious, it can help identify patterns and times of day where dieting may be especially challenging. By being prepared, you may be able to fend off cravings by simply changing your habits. A weight loss journal can be a great key to success for a dieter and help you natural weight loss.
6. Stress can turn on your body's hormones that control fat storage, especially around your abdomen, and increase your appetite for carbohydrates. To prevent stress from wreaking havoc with your diet, exercise every day, including taking short breaks throughout the day to climb the stairs or walk the dog. And keep plenty of fruits and vegetables around to snack on.
7. There are tons of things you can do at home to get exercise. Get an aerobics DVD and exercise in your living room. Heck, you can get the whole family involved and make it a group event.
It doesn't matter what you do, the point is to get moving and get that heart rate up. That's what helps you burn fat. I know a guy that used to run laps in his garage if he was unable to get to the gym.
8. Whole grains are great for weight loss, but refined white foods such as white bread, crackers and donuts are proven to impact insulin levels, which actually protect your stored fat instead of burning it.
