Is There A Medifast Program For Vegetarians? What Meatless Options Are Available?

I've been on this diet for a while and many of my coworkers are vegetarians.  A few have asked me if medifast is "vegetarian friendly" or if enough of the options are meatless.  I didn't know the answer to this question, but I researched it and I will share with you what I learned in this article.

Medifast Explained, (Whether You're A Vegetarian Or Not): Before I list the medifast foods that are vegetarian friendly below, I want to very briefly explain how this diet works. You are asked to eat six times per day.  For five of these small meals, you will eat the prepacked foods that the company provides.  Then, once per day, you will eat a larger meal composed of fresh, lean protein and vegetables which you prepare yourself.  This is called your "lean and green meal." Eating so often helps with metabolism and cravings.  I was not sure if it would pain to eat this often, but it is not as hard as I thought. The meals are small and very easy to assemble and prepare.  Most are better tasting than I suspected.

Most people don't realize that the foods on this diet are high in protein and low in carbs.  My coworkers have told me that vegetarians are very conscious of the amount of protein they consume to make sure that they are getting enough.

Meatless Options On The Medifast Diet: Many of the diet's foods don't contain animal products or meat (although some do contain kosher dairy, so these options wouldn't work for vegans.)  This include: the shakes, cappuccinos, most of the protein bars, the oatmeals, the cream of tomato soup, the eggs, the puddings, the teas, the soy chips and crackers, and almost the entire momentum line (metabolism boosters.) What's missing from this list is some of the soups and stews.

Going Meatless And Getting Enough Protein With Your Lean And Green Meal: This meal is composed of lean protein and veggies, so vegetarians, (who are often masters at getting protein without animal products), may well be right at home.  The company does offer meatless recommendations for your protein, like garden burgers, egg beaters, cottage cheese, veggie sausage, chikn'  grill patties, (vegetarian chicken), soy patties, and TVP.

When I informed my coworkers of this, most felt this was enough to get started and they liked the fact that the choices were so high in protein, which is a concern of theirs.  (This large amount of protein helps to trick your body into burning it's own fat.)

Keep in mind that within each subset of the foods, there are many different flavors and varieties, giving you more choices than you may think.  Most of the foods are quick and easy and you do have a decent amount of control over your lean and green meal.  And many folks tell me that being vegetarian is like being on a restrictive diet anyway, so I would not think that this experience would be that much different or more difficult.
