It can be all too easy for women to let themselves go a little bit as they get older. They may well have lost some of their self-discipline, and may well have accepted the fact that their looks are fading and their body is nowhere near as fit or as healthy as it used to be. However the truth is that you do not have to admit defeat because there are lots of things you can do to stay fit and healthy, and fight off the effects of ageing.
For a start you can give up some of your favourite vices such as smoking and drinking. As regards smoking, you should aim to quit altogether because it is so damaging to your health. With drinking you should also try and quit altogether, but because it is such a social activity, it may be best to try and cut down substantially and only drink small amounts in moderation.
These two things physically damage your body, but a silent killer is stress because when you are stressed out, certain parts of your body do not function as well. Therefore if this is an ongoing problem, it can really damage your health. It is not easy to eliminate stress, but you should try doing yoga, mediation and plenty of deep breathing because these will all help to some extent.
Another way to eliminate stress is to do lots of exercise. It is easy to gain weight as you get older, but this needn't be a problem if you keep getting plenty of exercise. You don't have to do lots of vigorous exercise, although that's great if you can, but just doing lots of walking and leaving the car at home every so often will help you stay in shape. You could do some gentle toning exercises if you want your body to look great as well.
One thing that does tend to deteriorate as you get older is of course your looks. The skin in particular is a real problem area. Therefore you should look after your skin throughout your life, which means moisturising regularly and slapping on lots of sunscreen when your are outside in the sun. Drinking plenty of water will also help keep your skin looking great as well.
Going back to the body, one of the best ways you can look after your body is to stick to a healthy diet. This means eliminating, or at least cutting back on junk food, and eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. The goal should be to get all the vitamins and minerals you need from your everyday diet. If you can do this, then you will look and feel fantastic.
If you are unable to stick to this kind of diet, then you could always make sure that you are not deficient by taking a good quality multivitamin every day. However it is always best to try and get these nutrients from the food that you eat if possible.
The point is that if you can follow these basic guidelines that I've just discussed, you can help fight off the effects of ageing, and hopefully stay fit and healthy as you go through your life. By eating properly and exercising regularly, and maybe taking extra vitamin and weight loss supplements if needed, you should be able to achieve this goal.
