What Kind Of Factors Cause Dramatic Gains In Weight?

This article is all about the various factors that combine to increase our overall weight. If you walk down any high street in the UK, or indeed the US for that matter, you will see that many people will be obese, or at least slightly overweight. This is a growing problem these days and as nations we seem to be getting bigger and bigger all the time. So why do people get so fat, and what are the main influencing factors for this weight gain?

Well there are of course numerous reasons. The most obvious one relates to the simple fact that many of us enjoy eating unhealthy food. For instance we like eating crisps, chocolate and a variety of high fat food such as chips, pizza and pasties. There is also the fact that many of us simply like eating full stop. Indeed it can be a source of great enjoyment, which is why restaurants are always very popular.

It is also possible to put on weight even if you look after yourself and eat a healthy diet. This is because apart from the main meals, you may have a tendency to eat lots of snacks whenever you are hungry. These snacks can be high in calories and can push you over your recommended daily allowance if you are not careful.

Similarly if you eat a healthy diet on a regular basis, but tend to laze around quite a lot and resist the urge to get very much exercise, then this will often result in weight gains. The truth is that a healthy diet by itself is not always enough to keep your weight at a constant level.

There will be some people who will try and do all the right things, but still find themselves putting on weight. This is actually fairly common because there are a couple of factors that can lead to this weight gain.

If you have a certain illness or condition, for example, you may find yourself putting on weight despite doing everything you can to keep your weight down. Similarly if you are taking a certain medication, you may find that you have to put up with slight increases in weight because this is one of the main side effects that occurs when taking his medication.

Finally it is worth making the point that we all tend to get slightly fatter as we approach middle age. This is perfectly natural to some extent, and is part of the ageing process. You can of course do a lot of exercise to try and keep your weight down, but this is not always easy to do once you get into your forties and fifties. Plus of course you may not have the same motivation to stay slim as you did when you were a lot younger.

The truth is that a lot of people let themselves go a little bit simply because they are no longer that bothered about how they look. They may have been married for a long period of time, for example, and do not care whether they have a bit of puppy fat around their waistline.

So as you can hopefully see, there are many factors that lead to people putting on weight. A lot of them are completely controllable, whilst others are not so easy to control. Ultimately it is down to each of us to look after our own weight, and to make the decision as to whether we want to stay slim or not.
