Is The Atkins Diet Healthy?

There are many wives tales out there about what to believe about whats right and wrong when it comes to losing weight. Everyone seems to have their own take on what is right to eat and how much of it you should eat.
The Atkins diet has been a popular idea for a long time around the weight loss community. There are people who swear by this system and say that it is the ultimate way to lose weight. This is largely a myth in my eyes and here's why.
I think we can all agree on one certainty too many carbs mixed with not enough activity to burn that energy will result in weight gain. On the total other side of the spectrum is the Atkins plan which claims that consuming any carbohydrates is bad, and if you want to drop weight you need to completely drop them from your diet.
The truth is going to lie somewhere in between both opinions. It is a simple equation if you want to drop pounds; burn more calories than you take in on a given day. There are 3500 calories per pound so if you are eating 500 more calories a day than you lose then you will gain a pound a week. The reciprocal is also true for cutting weight. Yes there are things that could affect these results on a scale for example amount of water intake if that changes from day to day, but all things staying the same the above example will hold true.
There are good calories and bad calories that you can consume. Atkins diet would have you believe that all carbs are not good for you which is actually not the case. If you talk to a nutritionist 30%-60% caloric intake should be carbs. That range is the range that I have personally been told by "experts" in the field. It is a wide range but you will notice that it doesn't include zero.
One thing that I do personally is consume most of my carbohydrates at the beginning of the day or an hour before I workout which will give me that added energy I need through my workout.
