Designing An Exercise Regime For Stay-At-Home Mommies

It's hard to commit to or even start an exercise regimeas a stay-at-home mom or dad but it's not impossible. Lucky for you, once you begin to look at things more creatively it turns out that the day of a busy parent offers countless moments where you can sneak in a workout. You just need to know where they are. Here are some simple opportunities for exercise time for exercise that you might otherwise be missing.

Get your children involved in your workout routine With the alarming rate of childhood obesity, it's each parent's responsibility to make sure their family is sticking to a regular exercise routine. Here's an opportunity you can take advantage of: Next time you send them out to play take the opportunity to play with them too. Don't let what you need to do be an excuse not to get moving and spend time with your children.

Another great motivator is getting into your workout gear as soon as you wake up and not letting yourself get out of them until your workout is complete. When you do this, you're primed and ready to get down to exercising the instant an opportunity arises - for example, while the children are watching 'Blue's Clues' or napping. By wearing your workout clothes, you're constantly reminding yourself of the priority you've set for your exercise regime.

To be sure, no matter how hard you try, some days don't seem to present any opportunities to complete your entire exercise regime. If you can't get in a full workout, it's important to try and sneak in pieces of activity throughout your day. For example, you can park farther away from the stores you visit to add a few additional steps to your day.

Adding on to that idea, make it a point to pick up the pace to and through the store. At-home parents can utilize small children as workout aides by doing push-ups with young children on their backs or leg lifts with their child holding on. The children will treat it like an amusement park ride. Why not climb a few flights of stairs while waiting for laundry to dry or the dryer to stop. Not matter how you slice it keeping to a healthy workout schedule will help you feel better it makes you a better parent for setting a healthy example for your children to follow.
