A Look at Low Carb Diet Plan

You must be aware that the body receives different carbohydrate types. These include sugar, starch, and fibers. All these types are able to provide the body with the needed energy to perform the day to day tasks or activities. However, not all carbs are good. For instance, if you get a lot of sugar, you become prone to cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, and weakened immune system.

Aside from losing weight, the low carb diet plan is also used for treating different health conditions such as chronic fatigue, diabetes, epilepsy, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. As the term suggests, the low carb diet plan restricts a person鈥檚 consumption of carbs. This will result to burning of fat reserves so that the body will have the needed energy. Instead of eating pastas and bread, you need to eat more of meat, green veggies, and soy products.

Once the body burns stored fats for energy, the 鈥榢etosis鈥?theory takes place. Ketosis happens when the body uses fat as fuel. Instead of running on blood sugar, the body runs on ketones. You can be sure that the low carb diet plan is safe because it is backed by science. Carbs are classified as simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates come from sweets, flour, rice, and simple sugars. These foods can be digested easily in comparison to complex carbs that are usually found in vegetables and fruits.

Unused sugars or glucose is stored in the liver, cells, and muscles. Insulin is needed in energy production and when you follow a low carb diet plan, the insulin level also drops. Because of this, stored fats are used to provide the body with energy; hence, a person can lose weight. Insulin resistance is also decreased and so a person can avoid potential health risks and metabolic syndrome.

If you think that low carb diets are new, you鈥檙e wrong! In fact, such diet plan has been around for some time now. Studies reveal that the first low carb diet plan was designed by a man named Dr. John Rollo. He used the diet plan to treat two diabetic soldiers way back in 1797. However, the father of low-carb diet programs is William Banting.

In the US, this type of diet plan became popular in 1967 and the first one launched in the market was designed by Dr. Irwin Stillman called Stillman Diet. Other diets followed after that. Among the most famous was the one designed by Dr. Robert Atkins, the Atkin鈥檚 Diet Plan during the sixties. More diet plans surfaced after that and some people claimed that such plans where fad diets.
