Losing Weight in 2010 - a New Years Resolution

Every January, millions of people put losing weight on their New Years Resolution list. And by the end of January, fewer than 10% of people actually stay committed to their goal to lose weight.

1. Be willing to Commit to your goal. What defines a commitment?  Once you are committed, you will do whatever it takes, regardless of how you ‘feel’ about it. When you are committed, you are being true to what you stand for. Prepare to be amazed at how your commitment will carry over into other areas of your life when you are truly commitment to losing the weight.

2. Put down on paper the weight that you want to be. When you write down your goal to lose weight you are increasing your chance for success.

3. Tell your friends and family. People who let their friends and family know about their goals are more likely to succeed. The important thing is to make sure that the ones who know are the ones who will support your success.

4. Plan your attack. Have as detailed a plan as possible how you are going to succeed in your weight loss program. Every meal has to be planned. Know in advance how many times you will go to the gym and workout. You will do best if you have a road map to your success. Otherwise you will fall to the wayside. Create a vision of where you want to be physically and just work backwards from there.

5. Have an Accountability Partner.  This is more than just making your loved ones aware. You are doing more just getting a ‘support’ group. You are working with someone who will hold you to your word! This is where a personal trainer can come in handy. Don’t have the money? Pick one friend or partner you can meet with  couple times a week to stay on course.

6. Focus With Reminders. Now you are ready to go. You have your plan of attack and your have your coach. You should have an idea how you will be eating for the next few weeks. The next step is to make sure that you are always focused on your goals. A simple approach is to have reminders.  Post it stickers can work. Use your reminders as a card in place them in your purse of Wallet. Try using a blackberry or cell phone. Make sure that what you do works best for you.

7. Be True to Yourself! If you are making the same goal time and time again and you are not achieving your fat loss goal, then you have to ask yourself some serious questions. What will make 2010 different? Be honest with you and ask your self if this goal is truly realistic. Maybe it’s a goal you think that you should have, but you are really doing it for someone else.
